What Exactly is a Nephron A Guide to Physiology on the MCAT

What Exactly is a Nephron A Guide to Physiology on the MCAT MCAT Medical School Admissions Just as on every other standardized admissions test, there is much debate as to the utility of the information examined on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems Section of the exam is arguably the most pertinent to future medical education endeavors. Included in this section is introductory anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, integumentary, and genitourinary systems. These topics, while challenging, are fundamental to a strong foundation when entering medical school. In addition, these are the questions that tend to be integrative and aid students in reaching the top percentiles on their MCAT. Below we will discuss an approach to learning anatomy and physiology for the MCAT. Use Diagrams As a first-year medical student who just finished her renal physiology and pathology course, I can attest to the difficulty of understanding the urogenital system. One method I found to be extremely helpful in learning nephrology during my dedicated MCAT study time and this past block in medical school was to utilize diagrams. The nephrons are essentially a giant plumbing system in the body, so it would make sense to draw yourself a schematic or diagram to give yourself an idea of where things occur. I liked to draw the nephron similar to a lot of diagrams seen in MCAT preparation books, drawing the filtrate system from the glomerulus all the way to the collecting duct. Then I would overlay the counter current blood supply. After that, I would draw in the movement of ions and water throughout the sections of the nephron. In medical school, I added to this and wrote the names of the pathologies that occurred in different locations of the nephron such as Bartter’s Syndrome in the thi ck ascending limb of the loop of Henle. In addition, I also wrote the names of drugs or drug classes where they acted, such as loop diuretics in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle. I would then work to redraw this diagram and label it by memory. If you are able to have a blueprint of a system in your head, it is much easier to organize and recall facts on test day. Hereis a great example of a diagram for the MCAT. Be the Teacher Another great way to apply this principle is teaching others. During my MCAT, my peers and I would get together periodically and run through the material that we had covered that week. As we went through the material, someone would inevitably voice a lack of understanding of a concept. At this point someone would jump up to the white board and diagram the concept out. I still apply this learning process in my medical education today. This system actually benefits both individuals. The teacher is having to recall the concept, which tests their understanding and brings to light any concepts they are struggling with through the corrections of the group. The individual being taught also gets to examine the concept in a new light; often our peers are able to reach us on a conceptual level that can be more effective than that of someone who has mastered the topics long ago. Break It A method often used by both premedical and medical students is to ‘break’ the model. For example, if I knocked out a part of the nephron such as the sodium-potassium pump, what would be the effects on the rest of the nephron? How would it compensate or respond? Examining your knowledge on a second order allows you to test the bounds of your understanding beyond memorization. In addition, it will build a learning system that is sustainable throughout medical school. Organ systems and pathologies are often taught first by what is ‘normal’ and then what abnormal looks like and how we name and identify the abnormal. Testing and learning through second order questions is what will ultimately allow you to score in the high percentiles on the MCAT and cause these concepts to develop long term, aiding you in medical school. Anatomy and physiology are difficult subjects for most students. Take the time to master the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section on the MCAT and it will serve you well for your medical school courses. These topics are the most similar to concepts covered in medical school. Hopefully, this learning experience is an enjoyable time to delve into the ideas that you are most excited about learning in your future career as a physician. Pearsons Language Test for English Language Leaners (PTE)

Pearson's Language Test for English Language Leaners (PTE) Hello Everyone! I hope that you are having a wonderful day! Many ESL students want to know if Pearson's English Language Test is comparable to the TOEFL? Well, many people agree that there are pros and cons to both tests; however, with the PTE test one can get his or her scores back in half the time as soon as five days! WOW! That is very quick; also, with the PTE test there is no room for human error on evaluating the Speaking section, because everything is done entirely online. However, on the TOEFL exam during the first part of the Speaking section you are actually stating your answer aloud to someone. As we all know, sometimes there can be bias without actually knowing or being aware of it. Please look at both tests before you make a decision or if you can afford it, then quite simply take both of the exams! That way you have a better shot at getting a score that you deserve. Also, remember that the older you are the harder it is to learn a second language. Please study hard for several hours a day and thoroughly prepare for either of these tests! There are study workbooks available online through Amazon or you may order from a Barnes and Noble bookstore if you prefer. Also, if you need tutoring on either of these tests do not hesitate to contact me!Yours in ESL,Tracey Pogue/ ESL Instructor

SUCCESS IN KUMON INSPIRED THIS YOUNG STUDENT TO EXCEL IN THE POOL

SUCCESS IN KUMON INSPIRED THIS YOUNG STUDENT TO EXCEL IN THE POOL SUCCESS IN KUMON INSPIRED THIS YOUNG STUDENT TO EXCEL IN THE POOL Haley, 14-years-old, Math Level N, Reading Program Completer Michael Phelps, the most successful and decorated Olympian of all time, once said, “You can’t put a limit to anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.” Just like Michael Phelps, Haley had an interest in swimming, but the sport didn’t necessarily come naturally to her. She wasn’t always the fastest swimmerâ€"often having slower times compared to her teammates. Instead of giving up, Haley compared the obstacles she was facing in swimming to her experience in Kumon. You see, Haley enrolled in Kumon when she was just six years old and now at 14, she can say she’s studying way above her peers. In fact, she completed the entire Kumon Reading Program, which ends in analyzing the work of Shakespeare, in the 6th grade and she’s currently studying advance algebraic expressions in the Kumon Math Program. It wasn’t always easy for Haley, but she recalled the grit, determination, focus, and goal setting that she used to advance through Kumon. â€" “Beyond academics, Kumon has really helped me with swimming,” said Haley. “When I first started swimming, most of the kids were much faster than I was. Seeing positive results from the hard work I put in daily at Kumon, motivated me to work hard every day at my swim practices. Like Kumon, I then saw a huge improvement in my swimming. My speed increased and I was invited to swim at more competitive meets.” Haley’s hard work and discipline has paid off both in the classroom and in her swimming. With her stroke of choice being breast stroke, she is proud to say she made the varsity swim team in her freshman year of high school. Haley has walked away as a medal winner from the Central California Junior Olympics, and swims for the Santa Barbara Swim Club in their senior group. When she’s not in the pool, Haley can be found singing in the school choir and playing the piano and guitar. She has even found a talent and enjoyment in composing her own music. In 2016, Haley achieved the Level 4 certificate of merit in voice and piano for The  Music Teachers’ Association of California ®. In 2017, she went on to achieve Level 5 in voice, and is currently training for Level 6 in voice. This program provides young musicians a curriculum to strive for excellence in areas such as performance, technique, sight-reading/singing, ear training, and music theory. While Haley is still unsure on a future career path, she has a great passion and interest in skincare. She can see herself owning her own business that specializes in skincare. Haley’s hard work and discipline didn’t go unnoticed, as she was one of 55 students selected to attend the 2018 Kumon Student Conference in Calgary, Canada. We had the opportunity to speak to Haley about her Kumon journey. How has Kumon helped you academically? Kumon has helped me go from being a kid in elementary school who sometimes struggled with math, but now in high school, I am in advanced math classes. The concepts being covered in school aren’t difficult to me anymore, since I’ve already worked through them in Kumon. If you could sum up your Kumon experience in one word, what would it be? Persistence How has Kumon helped you outside of the classroom? Kumon has helped me with setting long-term goals for myself. If I ever find myself working on anything challenging, I break it up into smaller pieces â€" making it much easier to take on and complete. What did it mean to you attending the Student Conference? Attending the Student Conference was such a great experience! It was amazing meeting other students who have worked so hard and have had so many accomplishments. The better a student’s reading comprehension is, the more likely the child will want to read for their own enjoyment and understanding. The student who reads frequently will be exposed to elements of goodâ€"and badâ€"writing, and will be able to use these elements in their own work. Exploring Literature The?Kumon Recommended Reading List?is an excellent resource to explore literature and texts that your child may not study in their regular classroom. The Kumon Recommended Reading List includes an excellent selection of works from Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning authors like Harper Lee and John Steinbeck, and works by Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway and Jane Austen. In addition, the reading list is organized by Kumon Reading Level to help you easily identify the appropriate books for your children. The more a child is influenced by great writing, the more likely he or she will develop into a better writer. What Is Surface Area In Chemistry?

What Is Surface Area In Chemistry? What is the surface area in chemistry? The answer is, the area in the chemical reaction is used to determine if a compound is a good catalyst for another. This is the reason why reactions are often many different steps, as the surface area is very important to help.Consider the example reaction where water is taken to be H2O, and then it is vaporized and condensed. How can you use surface area to help you determine if this mixture is a good catalyst? A surface area calculator is one tool that will give you an estimate of how many molecules you would need for this reaction to occur. So, you could calculate the number of molecules, and then divide by the surface area to give you the percentage of surface area. The next step is to see if you have the right number of molecules for the reaction to work.Although this is not the best example, it does point out how important surface area is to today's day. Although it is generally accepted that oxygen reacts with water at a temperature of about 100 degrees Celsius, there are other reactions that make use of surface area. Some examples of these are:Other uses of surface area are to create more efficient materials, and more rapid processes. These uses of surface area are how things like fuel cells work, and how cars operate when they have an exhaust pipe that will pass through a metal pipe, and make use of surface area. There are other uses of surface area, such as the way jewelry is shaped so it can better attract and hold a shape. So, what is the surface area in chemistry? When it comes to products, this is the area in which the rate of reaction, and therefore the products, can be calculated. Many of the reactions are very complicated, and using calculations, it is possible to figure out just how much is needed to complete the reaction.Surface area is also used in research and other activities. It is used in a number of ways, and different chemical reactions will require different areas for the calculations. This is why it is important to have the proper tools, and why most chemists and scientists will do calculations using a calculation software program. This will save them time and allow them to focus on more important things. So, what is the surface area in chemistry? Surface area is the surface area of a substance in a chemical reaction. Therefore, it can help you determine if a reaction is going to be a success, or if it is going to lead to a waste product. This is what can give you some insight into how things really work.

4 Steps to Getting Your Chemistry Certification in Less Than Two Weeks

4 Steps to Getting Your Chemistry Certification in Less Than Two WeeksSo you have decided to take on the challenge of taking on a Chapter 7 Assessment Chemistry. Yes, I know you do not want to pay thousands of dollars to a chemical engineering degree program but I have some great news for you. You can quickly and easily gain your chemistry certification by working a few hours a week in the lab. In this article, you will discover the four steps you need to take if you are serious about getting your chemistry certification.Get yourself prepared for your chemistry exam by taking a few basic classes online or at your local community college. This is the very first step. Read the guidelines in your state and make sure that you are able to understand them and that you know the necessary textbooks. Take a few extra math and reading courses. A couple of math courses can really help. Now, how do you get your hands on some classroom time in the lab? You can start by looking at your options in t erms of specialized schools. Make sure that they are approved by the National Board for Certifying Agencies (NBCA). You will need a special type of permit or license to work in a school.Testing often includes working under the guidance of an experienced lab instructor. That means that you will need to find a certified and licensed laboratory instructor who can work with you during your preparation. It is also important to find a supervisor who is well-trained in the proper techniques of Chapter 7 assessment. You must be sure that the person working with you understands what you need to do as well as the expectations of a successful examination. The final step is to get those assignments out to the lab. Prepare yourself by reading up on any part of Chapter 7 Assessment Chemistry that you don't understand. This is a very complex subject that needs to be well-prepared.Take the test questions to the lab and don't worry about being correct. In fact, it is a good idea to actually check you r answer sheet against the class discussion, the textbook, and the lab manual. It is only after you finish answering the test questions that you should stop looking at your answer sheet. When you stop checking your answer sheet, the test writer will no longer be checking it!As soon as you take the test results, check to see whether you passed or failed. At that point, you will have a certificate showing that you have taken the exam and met the requirements. Congratulations!

Organic Chemistry Tutor

Organic Chemistry TutorOrganic chemistry tutors help their students by giving feedback on the working of these chemical elements. You can find out the role played by these elements in the biology, chemistry and physics. In this process, it will be explained how the structure of a substance works, how one molecule is transformed into another molecule and how the mixture in which these two molecules are found in is handled. In organic chemistry, the teacher of the student can also make use of the theories to make a clarification in the composition of the chemical elements. The most important of the theories is the theory of the elements. In this way, it will be explained how the elements in nature are related to each other. If you are interested in chemistry, then there is no doubt that you should have understood the relationship between the elements and its compounds and those found in the laboratory.By the use of this theory, it will be possible for you to get an idea about the effect of acids and bases in the chemistry and physics. It will be explained in the classroom that by combining the elements with acids and bases, you will get different compounds. These compounds are then evaluated based on their quality and quantity. If the human body is made up of different elements, you may use the system of chemical analysis to calculate the rate of these elements. In this way, you can calculate the pH level of the bodily fluids. All these processes will be explained with the help of the periodic table of elements. The structure of the simple chemical elements, which are the basis of chemistry, is determined by the base, cation, and ionic number. The chemical structure of cations and anions in the form of compounds will be found out by the periodic table, which is a very useful tool for the student who wants to know the theory of organic chemistry. In this method, it will be explained that acid and base are the elements, which allow the existence of chemical elements, c ompounds, and ions. The chemical elements are usually in the form of substances, which are complex molecules, which are responsible for the development of chemicals. So, if you want to learn how to understand the effects of acids and bases in chemistry, then the simplest idea is to look at the structure of the elements. It will be easy for you to understand the structure of acids and bases. The main part of organic chemistry is the chemistry of acids and bases. If you are keen to learn more about this subject, then you can opt for the organic chemistry tutor.
